Support for Community Efforts to Document Collective Histories
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation: Call for Proposals to Community-Based Archives

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has issued the Call for Proposals to Community-Based Archives that represent and serve marginalized communities in the United States or its territories. Grants will fund one or more of the following areas of need: operational costs, including general support for staff, space, and utilities; collections care, including the acquisition of new materials, physical and digital storage fees, and access and preservation efforts; programming activities, including events, exhibitions, and publications; and activation and advocacy efforts, including resident community activist/archivist positions, ethical preservation of social media, and increased community use of the archive. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 will be provided to organizations with an annual operating budget of at least $50,000 and no more than $750,000. Applying organizations must have an established archive that has been in operation for two or more years. The registration deadline is June 25, 2021; applications must be submitted by July 2, 2021. Initiatives to Promote Safe and Clean Boating Funded
BoatU.S. Foundation: Grassroots Grants Program

The goal of the BoatU.S. Foundation is to be a leader in boating safety and environmental education and outreach, with the purpose of reducing accidents and fatalities, increasing stewardship of the nation's waterways, and keeping boating a safe, accessible, and enjoyable pastime. The Foundation's Grassroots Grants Program supports local, regional, and national nonprofit organizations, as well as boating clubs, environmental organizations, and student groups, that develop innovative projects to promote safe and clean boating. Past topics have ranged from PSAs on the effects of boating under the influence to hands-on education about the effects of marine debris. Grants of up to $10,000 are provided. Letters of intent may be submitted throughout the year. Online application guidelines are available on the Foundation's website.

Grants Address Educational Inequity in the U.S.
NWEA: Educators for Equity Grant Program

The NWEA Educators for Equity Grant Program helps foster growth for students in the U.S. who face systemic barriers to academic opportunities. Grants of up to $10,000 are provided to educators so they can better support students and help eliminate inequity in education. Funded programs should seek to remove systemic barriers to academic success for economically disadvantaged students and students of color, including students who identify as Black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Asian/Pacific Islander; students learning English and speaking a language other than English fluently; and students experiencing economic disadvantage. U.S. schools serving students from pre-K through 12th grade that are public schools or have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status are eligible to apply. The application deadline is June 11, 2021. Community-Led Solutions for People Living With HIV Supported
ViiV Healthcare: Positive Action Community Grants

ViiV Healthcare is committed to the communities in the United States most disproportionately impacted by HIV, including youth, women of color, gay and bisexual men of color, and people living in the South. ViiV Healthcare's Positive Action Community Grants initiative is currently requesting proposals to support the health and well-being of people living with HIV through innovative, community-led solutions that address disparities in the epidemic. Organizations may request funding for general operating support, special events sponsorships, or project support. Nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are eligible to apply. The application deadline is July 1, 2021. The Positive Action Community Grants request for proposals (PDF) may be downloaded from the ViiV Healthcare website.

Funds for Programs to Address Pollution From Energy Development in Appalachia
Appalachian Stewardship Foundation

The Appalachian Stewardship Foundation seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to protect freshwater streams and tributaries against the effects of pollution from energy development and use in Appalachia, with emphasis on efforts benefiting Virginia and West Virginia. The Foundation's grant program provides support to nonprofit organizations that address one of the following two issues: The Greenhouse Gas Reduction category has a focus on the reduction, sequestration, offset, mitigation, and storage of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. The Stream and Fishery Restoration category has a focus on the mitigation of damage or pollution to streams and fresh water tributaries. The submittal deadlines for Expressions of Interest are February 1 and July 1, annually. Visit the Foundation's website to learn more about the grant policy and application process.

Grants Foster Community Organizing for Social Justice in the Midwest
Needmor Fund

The mission of the Needmor Fund is to work with others to bring about social justice. The Fund's Core Grants program focuses on supporting community organizing in the Midwest—specifically Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The Fund seeks to support groups that organize primarily low- and moderate-income people; have a multi-issue agenda that reflects an intersectional approach to addressing issues associated with race, economic justice, and equality; demonstrate a commitment to long-term base building; are democratically run and consist of a dues-paying membership base; have developed a power analysis and a plan for challenging the dynamics of power within their communities; engage in direct action and have demonstrated the ability to win victories of increasingly larger scale; have a vision to continually build power; and are well managed and engage in strategic planning. Support for Initiatives to Improve New York State's Food System
New York State Health Foundation: Advancing Healthy Food, Healthy Lives

The New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth) has released a request for proposals, "Advancing Healthy Food, Healthy Lives," that aims to support a more robust, diverse food system that promotes health and equity throughout New York State. The goals of this RFP include improving food and nutrition quality, increasing access to healthy and affordable food, and growing participation in food benefit and nutrition incentive programs. Nonprofit organizations, government agencies, for-profit organizations, and academic organizations are eligible to apply for grants of up to $300,000. Competitive projects should be committed to improving racial and health equity in New York's food system. The deadline for the online inquiry form is June 9, 2021; invited full proposals will be due August 25, 2021. Visit the NYSHealth website to download the "Advancing Healthy Food, Healthy Lives" RFP.

Exelon Corporate Giving Program

The Exelon Corporate Giving Program strives to improve the quality of life in the communities where company employees and customers live and work throughout the United States. Grants are provided to nonprofit organizations that demonstrate a proven track record in addressing key community needs. Funding priorities include education, the environment, arts and culture, and local programs and services. Program and event support are provided. Telemedicine and Distance Learning Supported
Department of Agriculture

The Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants program offers support to enable and improve services in rural areas. Funds may support the use of telecommunications-enabled information, audio and video equipment, and related advanced technologies by students, teachers, medical professionals, and rural residents. These grants are intended to increase rural access to education, training, and healthcare resources that are otherwise unavailable or limited in scope. The application deadline is June 4, 2021.

Funds Available for Humanities Material Preservation and Dissemination
National Endowment for the Humanities

The Humanities Collections and Reference Resources program supports projects that provide an essential underpinning for scholarship, education, and public programming in the humanities. The program strengthens efforts to extend the life of humanities materials (collections of books and manuscripts, photographs, sound recordings and moving images, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, art and material culture, and digital objects) and make their intellectual content widely accessible, often through the use of digital technology. Awards are also made to create various reference resources that facilitate use of cultural materials, from works that provide basic information quickly to tools that synthesize and codify knowledge of a subject for in-depth investigation. Optional drafts are due June 3, 2021. The application deadline is July 15, 2021.
